About

Carlo Viola, standing with his camera
Carlo Viola

Carlo Viola was a fine art photographer, living in New Castle, Delaware. He made photographs for over 40 years, exhibiting and selling his work in the Wilmington and Philadelphia areas. He described his style as abstract realism. The architecture of New Castle was a frequent subject, along with the many places he visited as he traveled to Europe, Brazil, and the Caribbean.

His early work used the 35mm film format. Starting in 2009, he switched to high-resolution digital cameras, typically carrying a 35mm format DSLR along with a comparable quality compact camera. Each image was carefully composed and custom printed full frame with no cropping and minimal post production processing. His exhibited work was always finished using the traditional method of archival chromagenic printing.

Carlo Viola died in 2022 at the age of 79. This site is maintained by his son.
